I did some hill work for the first time in a couple of weeks. We did 4 minutes of 5 sets of hill repeats. I took it easy the first rep and then gradually picked it up from there. I didn't really keep track of any kind of metrics but I know had a decent effort. I ended up a running just under 8 miles.

Bill,
Interested in hearing more about your hill routine. I have a hill about 1/2 mile long that I do repeats on (push it up, take it easy on the way down). I did 8 repeats last saturday. What do you mean by "4 minutes of 5 reps"? Thanks! ( Enjoy reading your blog and getting ideas and motivation)

Bob,
Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad I'm able to give you some ideas. Hopefully they have been effective for you.
About the hill work. I probably misstated the type of workout we did. Instead of "4 minutes of 5 reps", I really meant to say 4 minutes of 5 sets with 2 minutes rest between. I usually ended up running for .54 miles or so. The goal was to run each set faster than the previous. It sounds like you get the gist as you are going up hard and taking it easy on the downhill. Our hill was a lot shorter and probably steeper than yours I would guess. I would also guess that ours probably would work on your speed a bit more than your long half mile hill, although I don't know how steep your hill is.
