No Run
My wife had a play date with her friend. So I either had to get up extremely early and run on dead legs or catch up on some sleep. Needless to say I chose the latter. Remember, I’m lazy now.

2.90 Miles Easy
7:50 Pace
Remember when I said no strings attached? I meant it. I’m putting in a safeguard that says when I hit 7:45 pace at any point during my run past the first mile then I’m stopping the run. Obviously that happened today so I cut the run short. Evidently I’m still not recovered.

8.71 Miles Easy
7:11 pace
I looked in the mirror and thought to myself, I’m fat. I can’t let myself go like this. Here’s the deal. I’ll run when I feel like it. If I don’t get enough sleep or I don’t feel like running then I’m skipping. For the first time ever, I didn’t miss running. I slept like a baby during my hiatus too. I spent time with my wife and kids. Got more work done, and I felt like a productive mere mortal. A refreshing feeling. As fun as that was, I starting watching the P90x and the Insanity infomercials and started thinking…that’s me. I’m already, or was, in freakish shape. What a shame to let all that go to waste. So I’m back to running, no strings attached.

No Run
No running, no exercising, no nothing. Not reading about running, not reading any running blogs. I’m just a civilian now. A mere mortal. I don’t miss running.

11.68 Long Run
7:16 Pace
I saw Sean out there in the morning and chatted a little. He asked me why I wasn’t at the Bellaire Trolley race. I told him about my slow Fartlek on Tuesday. We both agree I’m probably physically and mentally burned out.

I’m glad I ran so poorly. It is soooo obvious that I’m broken that I don’t have to even think twice about not running the Bellaire Trolley on Saturday. It’s a relief because the answer is so definitive. This is the slowest I have ever run a fartlek since I started keeping track on this blog.

Mile 2 | 5:19 |
Mile 3 | 5:27 |
Last .1 | 6:03 |
Total Average Pace | 5:17 |
2.24 Mile cool down
Definitely below my standards. Something isn’t right with me physically. I went out hard but all I could muster was a 5:01 pace the first mile. In the middle of the 2nd mile I felt it all starting to crumble. I felt bad knee pain, hamstring pain, but tried to hold it together. I figured I would get caught at during mile 3 so I slowed quite a bit so I’d at least have a kick left. I didn’t have to worry because I didn’t need it. No one came after me since they figured I was 15:50 high. This was actually the first time since I could remember that I actually put the brakes on in a race. After this disaster it looks like I can kiss the Bellaire Trolley Race goodbye.
